India Stands 11th In Worldwide COVID-19 Count With Close To 1 Lakh Cases
India now stands in 11th place in the worldwide count of confirmed coronavirus cases. With the biggest single-day jump of over 5,200 cases reported on Sunday, as per the update released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has now recorded 96,169 cases of coronavirus positive patients. The country has recorded 3,029 deaths so far, while 36,823 patients have recovered from the deadly pandemic.
Ahead of India in the worldwide list of COVID-19 confirmed cases are the US with 14,86,757, Russia (2,81,752) the UK (2,44,995), Brazil (2,41,080), Spain (2,30,698), Italy (2,25,435), France (1,79,693), Germany (1,76,369), Turkey (1,49,435) and Iran (1,20,198). China has now slipped to the 13th place with 84,054 COVID-19 confirmed cases.
The caseload per day in India has now risen to about 4,000 to 5,000 bringing a sharp surge in the total number of COVID-19 cases. With new guidelines being formulated and issued by various states, it remains to be seen how the coronavirus curve over the next two weeks plays out.
According to experts, this is a critical phase as some states are likely to go in for intra-state movement as also opening up of local transport. Several industries are likely to resume operations in many parts of the country.
Migrant labourers are also reaching their home states in various parts of the country and this has led to a sharp spike in states like Bihar, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. For instance, Odisha's caseload went up from 100 cases to over 800 cases in a matter of about 10 days due to the return of migrant labourers to the state.
