Srinagar: In a major breakthrough, security forces arrested a terrorist from the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba terrorist outfit in Khojpura of Shopian district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces also recovered one 9 mm pistol and other weaponry from him.

The arrest of the LeT terrorist is considered an important achievement because it will give security forces an opportunity to interrogate and understand the game-plan of Pakistani trained terrorists who have been infiltrating into India from across the LoC.

More than 11 terrorists have been killed over the past two weeks in various encounters in south Kashmir. Pakistan seems to be trying desperately to push terrorists into the Valley in a bid to disrupt peace and harmony in the state. The infiltration process received a thrust after the revocation of Article 370 in the erstwhile state of Jammu and South Kashmir in August 2019 and the subsequent bifurcation of the state into the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The South Kashmir region has been the theatre of fierce encounters with security forces eliminating several Pakistani-trained terrorists over the past few weeks and months in joint operations. In one such encounter, the nephew of the founder of Jaish-e-Mohammed Azhar Masood, was killed. The slain terrorist, an expert at making explosives, had also filled a Santro car with explosives a few days earlier. The car was intercepted and blown up by security forces subsequently.
