A PIL pursuing 'action' opposing to DMK's M Kanimozhi (Tuticorin) and Kathir Anand (Vellore) for suspected violation of model code of conduct was terminated by the Madras high court after the election commission said FIRs had been booked against both candidates on Tuesday.

A division bench of Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad terminated the plea recording the submissions made by the commission, which said FIRs were based on objections of violation of election code.

"Kanimozhi had been clandestinely distributing cash to voters during campaigning. Even the police have taken note of this and have registered a case against the party members," said V Abdullah Sait in his appeal.

The PIL wanted a stroke against DMK's Vellore candidate and senior DMK leader Duraimurugan's son D M Kathir Anand after indicating the the seizure of cash worth several crores by the income tax department in Vellore.

Sait claims, "These candidates had made a mockery of the system and undermined public faith in the election process."
