Dravidian politics is not the only USP of Tamil Nadu which has been under the rule of regional parties, non-stop since 1967. Till the time he was alive till August 2018, 94-year-old M Karunanidhi, (born 1924) whose 96th birth anniversary it is today, was its longest serving Chief Minister. He is also among the rare set of politicians who served till they were into the 90s, making him a long-living leader of Indian politics.

Karunanidhi not only consolidated his hold on the Tamil public with a combination of skillful writing, oratory, administrative acumen and opportunistic politics with the Delhi parties but also had a unique record to his credit. Till his last election, he remained undefeated in any of the ones he contested till 2016, despite anti-incumbency waves and hostility facing his Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. He married thrice, had six children, out of which Stalin at the state level and Kanimozhi at the central level were recognised across the country.
