Update: 2019-08-06 20:34 IST

New Delhi: The government's decision to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into union territories has been approved by both the upper and lower houses of the parliament. While 367 leaders voted in favour of the move, 67 voted against it.

Speaking about the government's decision, Home Minister Amit Shah stated, "Law and order situation in JK has not deteriorated; all action taken were precautionary. This is not a historical blunder but we are rectifying the historical blunder. Over 41,500 people lost their lives in JK due to militancy since 1989."
