Lok-Sabha Results: Congress deserted after favorable verdict for BJP
On Thursday, the favourable verdict for BJP has turned out to be a rude shock for the Karnataka Congress, with three of its stalwarts, which include leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, former Union ministers K H Muniyappa and M Veerappa Moily.
Also the defeat of former PM H D Deve Gowda has become quite upsetting for the ruling coalition. The JD(S) supremo was banking heavily on the deputy chief minister G Parameshwara and his own local MLAs to make sure he remains victorious. But that never came through.
Congress has faced its biggest loss through the defeat of Kharge, as he was the opposition leader of the party and was pegged to be the senior-most central leader from Karnataka. Kharge has lost the sobriquet 'solillada saradara' (chieftain who has never lost).
Muniyappa, the seven-time MP from Kolar, who has been defeated by the BJP corporator from Kadugodi ward of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike suggests that he became a victim of a large scale conspiracy within and outside the party.
Moily suffered defeat, as he was being considered as 'an outsider' and the failure of providing drinking water to Chikkaballapura, had contributed heavily against him and in favour of his opponent, B N Bache Gowda.
