LS Speaker Suspends 7 Congress MPs For Gross Misconduct
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday, suspended seven Congress MPs for the rest of the Budget Session for their unruly behaviour in the house. The suspended MPs were first named by the chair of the house for their disruptive behaviour in the house.
The Congress MPs suspended by the Speaker include Gaurav Gogoi, Ravneet Singh Bittu, EbeHindon, Prataphan and Ramya. The MPs had allegedly torn some paper and thrown it at the sitting Speaker in Lok Sabha, B. Rama Devi.
Leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury remarked that it was the NDA government and not the Speaker which had decided on the issue. He added that his party will not yield to the suspension without protesting. The Congress MP also said that the opposition was united in its fight against the government.
The Congress will continue its fight both inside the Parliament and outside, Chowdhury said. Other opposition parties criticized the BJP claiming that it did not want a discussion on the Delhi riots. Analysts point out that the Congress sought to corner the BJP-led government over the Delhi violence. The Modi government, however, deferred the debate to the post-Holi period of the Budget Session.
This decision of the government was not acceptable to the opposition which sought an immediate discussion on the Delhi riots.
