Maharashtra governor has conspired with BJP: Ashok Gehlot

Update: 2019-11-23 17:56 IST

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot slammed Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for administering the oath to BJP's Devendra Fadnavis and NCP's Ajit Pawar at the Raj Bhavan in "secrecy" this morning. He said that the governor "hatched a conspiracy" with BJP leaders PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing the media, Ashok Gehlot said the Nationalist Democratic Alliance (NDA) and mainly the BJP have played dirty politics in Maharashtra.

Adding to his statements, he said, "The Governor is supposed to be non-partisan when takes the oath of the Constitution. The Maharashtra Governor connived with the BJP leaders and hatched a conspiracy. After Haryana, the message given by the voters was clear but the BJP hasn't learnt its lessons."

The CM said President Ram Nath Kovind should intervene into the matter immediately. "The BJP government should prove the majority as soon as possible. The Governor should not have done this. We criticize this act of PM Modi and Amit Shah. The Governor [Bhagat Singh Koshyari] is above any political party. He conspired this on the advice of PM Modi and Amit Shah. He shouldn't be on his post as he lost his face," Ashok Gehlot said.

The Congress on Saturday termed the move of BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister a black chapter in India's democracy. Slamming the new government and calling it "illegitimate", the opposition party alleged that the Governor did not make an effort to verify his claims of having the support of a majority of MLAs. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the BJP "scared" an "opportunist" Ajit Pawar, the NCP leader who has joined hands with the saffron party and acted as "contract killer" of democracy in a press conference.

Randeep Surjewala said that current CM Devendra Fadnavis had promised to put Ajit Pawar in jail but has made him deputy chief minister now.
