Mumbai: A resurgent Raj Thackeray is leading a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) rally on Sunday against illegal Bangladeshi and Pakistani immigrants in Mumbai. The rally being held in support of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will proceed from Hindu Gymkhana to Azad Maidan in Mumbai, where the MNS chief Raj Thackeray is scheduled to address the gathering.

Strict security arrangements have been in put in place for the rally which is also being closely monitored by security men apart from drone cameras. Traffic restrictions have also been enforced in view of the MNS rally in South Mumbai.

The MNS rally is being seen as a major move by Raj Thackeray indicating a shift towards the BJP. In recent weeks, the MNS chief has shown signs of leaning towards the BJP and was also reported to have met former Maharashtra chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.

Raj Thackeray also adopted a saffron flag for the MNS to mark a clear shift to Hindutva politics. The MNS supremo had earlier stated emphatically that illegal immigrants should be thrown out of the country. Posters asking illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to go back have also surfaced in many areas in support of the Sunday rally.

The MNS sees political space in Maharashtra with the Shiv Sena moving closer to Congress and Nationalist Congress party (NCP). MNS reckons that it can get access to the hard line Shiv Sena voter base with Uddhav Thackeray's current proximity to traditional political foes of the Sena.
