Barabanki/Unnao: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, accusing the Narendra Modi government of halting construction of food work in Amethi - the constituency of her brother and party chief Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday asked people to question its "policy and intentions" when they vote.

Addressing a public meeting ahead of her road show in support of Congress candidate Tarun Punia, son of former MP and retired bureaucrat P.L. Punia, in Barabanki, she said: "The Central and the state government have not done any works in Barabanki. Even they stalled the project of a food park in Amethi.

"If the food park would have come in Amethi, then lakhs of farmers would have benefitted from that."

"The policy and the intention of this government is not good. So when you people go out to vote, then think about the government's intention and its policy. The intention of the government is not good,' she said.

Gandhi then accused the BJP government of supressing the voice of the people and mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for coming to people and telling them that he has done major work.

"He is not doing any favour to the people by saying that he has done this work and that work," she said.

Attacking Modi further, she said: "When a man gets the power, then he forgets a number of things. He thinks that this power is only for him. He forgets that who has given him the power.

"The Prime Minister and the government have forgotten that who has given them power."

Before addressing the public meeting in Barabanki, the Congress leader, who is also in-charge for the eastern Uttar Pradesh, offered prayers at shrine of Sufi saint Waris Ali Shah in Dewa area of Barabanki.

After the public meeting, Gandhi then kicked off the road show here along with Tanuj Punia from the Quami gate area of the town.

Earlier in the day, she also held a five km long road show in Unnao for party candidate Anu Tandon.

Hundreds of Congress workers braved the heat to get a glimpse of Gandhi and showered her with flower petals during the road show.

However, a scuffle broke out between the Congress and BJP workers after few people waved black flags and raised slogans like "Priyanka Gandhi wapas jao".

Anu Tandon is contesting against BJP's Sakshi Maharaj, who is the sitting MP.
