Monsoon makes North- East divide!
New Delhi: While parts of Northwest India continue their wait for the arrival of monsoon showers, the states located on the eastern side of the country are in for intense monsoon rains this week. Over the next five days, heavy rainfall has been forecast in multiple states across East India.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the lower-level wind convergence of monsoonal easterly and southeasterly winds will cause fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over West Bengal, Sikkim, North Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand during the next five days.
Furthermore, isolated very heavy showers have also been forecast over Chhattisgarh on Wednesday and over Odisha on Friday. Isolated heavy showers are possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha and Sikkim for the next five days; over Gangetic West Bengal, east UP, Jharkhand and MP on Wednesday; over Chhattisgarh from Wednesday to Friday; and over Bihar on Thursday and Friday. In view of these predictions, the IMD has issued a yellow watch over all the aforementioned states for the next two days, with the advisory urging residents to 'be aware' of the local weather situation while planning their days. Odisha, meanwhile, will be placed under an orange alert on Friday and Saturday, with the advisory forewarning the residents of the state to 'be prepared' for rough weather. Along with East India, the adjoining states in the northeastern region will also experience an intense rain spell this week. The strengthening of moist southwesterly monsoon winds will bring fairly widespread to widespread showers over the Northeast for the next five days. Isolated heavy rain will be particularly likely over Tripura and Mizoram on Wednesday; Arunachal Pradesh on Friday; and Assam and Meghalaya for the next five days.
