MP Crisis: 19 Congress MLAs Loyal To Jyotiraditya Scindia Resign
19 Congress MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia are reported to have resigned from the party on Tuesday. This follows the decision of their leader to quit the party.
One of the tallest leaders in the Congress and former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the Congress party on Tuesday a short while after he had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at PM Modi's residence in the national capital. Media reports state that Scindia would join the BJP this evening at 6 PM.
25 MLAs seen as Scindia loyalists are preparing to resign from the party in total, it is learnt. Jyotiraditya Scindia would be given a Rajya Sabha seat from the BJP and would also be offered a cabinet berth in PM Modi's ministry, in all likelihood.
Jyotiraditya Scindia went incommunicado overnight and in a day of dramatic developments quit the Congress even as his former party claimed to have expelled him, in a face-saving move.
The Congress government headed by Kamal Nath had won 20 MLAs, marginally over the majority mark of one month six MLAs in the 228 member strong house.
The Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh is on the verge of collapse as is likely to be proved in a floor test. However, the next few days will prove to be critical for the Congress party as also the fortunes of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh.
