New Delhi: Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Madhya Pradesh heavyweight resigned from the Congress and posted his letter of resignation on the popular microblogging site Twitter. In his letter the Madhya Pradesh Congress leader remarked that it was a path that had been drawing out for some time now. Scindia said that he was interested in serving the people of the state and his country.

Speculation is rife that Jyotiraditya Scindia will join the BJP on Tuesday and that he will be offered a Rajya Sabha seat. This follows his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, Scindia loyalists in Congress are likely to quit the party, media reports say. At least 16 of them are staying at two separate resorts in Bengaluru.

The BJP is likely to stake claim to form the government in Madhya Pradesh with the imminent collapse of the Kamal Nath government. In the light of these developments, Governor Lalji Tandon cut short his visit and returned to Bhopal.

A political crisis had been unfolding in Madhya Pradesh for some time with Scindia feeling left out and with chief Minister Kamal Nath and senior party leader Digvijaya Singh gaining an upper hand in party affairs, political observers point out. Jyotiraditya Scindia was in the race for the chief minister of the state. The post of MPCC president was also denied to him and smarting under a sense of being neglected, Scindia finally decided to cross the line and joined the BJP.
