Lucknow: In a big development in the Unnao rape case and a massive embarrassment for the BJP, the police on Monday named MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the first information report (FIR) that has been filed in connection with the accident in Rae Bareli on Sunday.

In the accident, the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer were critically injured, while her two aunts lost their lives.

As per the FIR, the BJP MLA, who is in jail, has been listed as accused number one and has been booked afresh on attempt to murder charge. Sengar's brother Manoj Singh Sengar and eight others have also been named in the FIR.

"FIR has been registered under IPC sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120b (criminal conspiracy) against 10 named persons, including the BJP MLA, and 15-20 others," a police officer said.

It may be noted that Sengar, a four-time MLA from Bangermau, was accused of raping the Unnao girl and was arrested on April 13 last year. On Sunday, a car in which the 19-year old woman was travelling with her family and lawyer was rammed by a truck in Rae Bareli.

The development came as the family of the Unnao rape survivor wrote a letter to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded an investigation by the CBI into the matter. The letter was written by Mahesh Singh, uncle of the rape survivor.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police OP Singh has already stated that if the family demanded, they would recommend to the state government to institute a CBI probe into the accident.

Among the two women killed in the accident, one was Pushpa Singh - a witness in the rape case.

Meanwhile, ADG Rajiv Krishna said the state government would bear all the medical expenses incurred on treatment of the rape survivor and her lawyer. The duo is on life support system in a Lucknow hospital.

The ADG has denied any security lapse in the matter as per initial investigation. As per him, the rape survivor had requisite security. Nine personnel were deployed on her security duty, six of them in Delhi where the survivor lives.

"We have spoken to the three of the security personnel and they said that the rape survivor had asked them to stay back because there was no space in the car," he said.

Briefing reporters, Delhi Women's Commission chairperson Swati Maliwal said the rape survivor was critical. She made the statement after calling on the family at the hospital. "The condition of the girl and her lawyer is very critical.

The family wants that they should be taken to Delhi in an air ambulance. We are prepared to take the responsibility and I will talk to the concerned officials," she said.

In related developments, the Samajwadi Party, Congress and the BSP have also demanded a CBI probe into the accident. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra raised doubts over the accident and said the development was "shocking".

BSP chief Mayawati claimed the accident was a conspiracy to kill the rape survivor. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav asked why were the security personnel not with the victim at the time of the accident.
