New motor vehicle act 2019 comes into force

The new motor vehicle act 2019, which was passed by the parliament last month has come into force today. With the new act coming into existence, the motorists have to shell out huge money if caught violating traffic rules as 63 clauses of the new act are implemented.

The new act also governs cab aggregators such as Uber and Ola. However, it will take a few months to be implemented.

Here's is a list of fines imposed if the traffic rules are violated...

♦ Driving under the influence of Alcohol and not giving way to emergency vehicles like ambulance and fire brigade will be penalised Rs 10,000. Earlier it was Rs 2,000.

♦ Driving without seat-belt can get a fine of Rs 1,000 and use of mobile phone while drive can get a penalty between Rs 1,000-Rs 5,000.

♦ Driving without a licence can invite a fine of Rs 5,000 while it is Rs 1 lakh for cab aggregators.

♦ Rs 1,000- Rs 2,000 fine for overspeeding of vehicles. Overloading of vehicles will draw a penalty of Rs 20,000. Two-wheelers will be fined Rs 1,000 if riding without a helmet.

♦ The provisions of the new Act also recommend that the parents of a juvenile caught for traffic offences should be jailed for three years and fined Rs 25,000.
