Nirbhaya's Mother: Will Continue Fight For All Daughters
New Delhi: Nirbhaya's mother, Asha Devi told the media after the hanging of the four rapists and murderers accused in the case that her fight against those who commit crimes against women would continue. Asha Devi said that her fight was not for her daughter alone and that she would not rest till all victims of such crimes get justice. Nirbhaya's parents said that they were relieved that their daughter finally got justice.
Asha Devi pointed out that the convicts had exploited every single loophole in the system to delay the hanging. She said that laws needed to be changed to ensure that justice was expedited in cases like this.
After the hanging of the four rapists and murderers of Nirbhaya, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur and Pawan Gupta in the Tihar jail in the early hours of Friday, Asha Devi said that the dawn marked a new era for all women in the country who deserve justice.
Nirbhaya's father Badrinath Singh and mother, Asha Devi recalled how neither the rapists and murderers of their daughter nor the parents of the convicts had any remorse for the heinous act the criminals committed.
Asha Devi commended The efforts of their lawyer, Seema Kushwaha who waged a very brave struggle, she said. Nirbhaya's parents also said that it was important to ensure gender equality in our upbringing of children. Parents should not discriminate between a boy and a girl, they said. Asha Devi also told the media that it was necessary to embolden and empower women.
