Update: 2019-08-30 13:30 IST

On Saturday the final list of NRC is to be released in Assam at 10am. The first list that was released did not have 41 Lakh people on it.

The announcement of the NRC list is to be the biggest development after the Jammu and Kashmir issue, under the government of Narendra Modi.

"The list would be available online by 10am and those who do not have internet connections can go to Seva Kendras set up by the state government to check their status," a senior officer in the Home Ministry.

The center has also stated that the people whose names do not appear in the final NRC cannot be declared foreigners till all legal options are exhausted and that 1000 Tribunals will be set up in phases to hear the disputed cases. Even if the person loses the case at the tribunals they can approach the High Court and the Supreme court. The Assam police has also stated that the people declared foreigners would be given adequate protection and that there are elements trying to evoke confusion.

The center had also stated that legal aid shall be provided to the people who have been left out of the NRC through the legal proceedings.
