LUCKNOW: The opposition party was condemned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "playing caste politics" with him, by casting aspersions during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on his backward class status. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a day after the PM's attack, defended the party by saying that the opposition parties were solely talking about development, and claimed that she was not even aware of PM Modi's caste.

"Even today, I do not know his (PM Modi's) caste. The opposition and Congress leaders are only raising issues related to development. We never made any personal remarks against him", Priyanka said to reporters in Amethi on Sunday. "I fail to understand their kind of nationalism. You are not ready to listen to the voice of people when they protest, you do not meet aggrieved farmers when they came barefoot from across the country. What kind of nationalism is there in not paying heed to the plight of poor and making fake promises to jobless youth?", she said.

PM Modi had stressed on the fact that he belonged to an extremely backward class and bashed the opposition parties for playing caste politics on him for that reason on Saturday. Public meetings in Bahraich and Dhaurahra had also been addressed by Priyanka Gandhi.
