New Delhi: Close to 220 people, who tested negative for the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, and were quarantined at Manesar Army Camp after being airlifted from Wuhan in China, are all set to be sent home on Tuesday. The Union Health Ministry said that after the requisite quarantine period, these evacuees are being discharged as they tested negative.

The Government of India had undertaken the evacuation of its citizens after the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus. The evacuation took place in two phases on February 1 and 2.

The Indian Army had set up a quarantine facility near Manesar to meet the emergency requirement of creating and managing such a facility for close to 300 Indian students evacuated from Wuhan. The students were segregated and housed in separate barracks, which were part of clearly demarcated sectors.

The Wuhan evacuees were subject to medical examination on a daily basis. This was done at the medical facility area in the facility. The staff members, including para-medical workers, health care workers and housekeeping staff were made to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Earlier, officials had pointed out that persons, who are cleared by doctors after 14 days, would be sent home. They would be sent with necessary certificates and documents. State government and district health authorities would keep further surveillance on the evacuees as needed.
