PM Modi Flays Poor Governance Of 70 Years, Lists NDA Achievements
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Opposition for its poor governance record of seven decades. PM Modi began his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address to Parliament saying that he believed Mahatma Gandhi to be the lifeline of his government's vision.
Ridiculing the opposition for its poor record of 70 years, Prime Minister Modi asserted that if his government had followed the path shown by the Congress Article 370 would never have been scrapped, Triple Talaq would not have been opened and Kartarpur corridor could not have been opened. Similarly, Bangladesh-India border disputes would never have been resolved, he added.
The country has always endeavoured to take on challenges, he said adding that there were leaders earlier, who shied away from taking on challenges. The NDA government is moving at a fast pace and there is a great need to carry all sections of society along, PM Modi observed.
If we had trodden on the path shown by Congress the country could not have made many significant strides including acquisition of next generation fighter aircraft, he added. Both sensitivity and solution are needed to find solutions to long-standing problems, PM Modi added.
PM Modi reminded the House that his party received a mandate from the people of the country for a second term reposing faith in the policies of the NDA government.
In his reply PM Modi remarked that earlier governments looked at the north-east through a political lens, whereas his government believed that north-east is not a political problem. Over the last five years Delhi moved closer to the Northeast with ministers gaining the confidence of the locals by visiting those areas frequently, he aded.
The NDA government laid focus on rail networks, airports, electricity and mobile connectivity in the Northeast, among other things. Importantly, the Bodo agreement is a major milestone. All Bodo militant groups have laid down their arms, he said.
PM Modi commented that the NDA government laid special emphasis on developing infrastructure and cited several examples to substantiate his point.
