PM Modi Pushes For Make In India In Healthcare

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged people to discuss and actively participate in three important aspects of the healthcare sector in India. The prime minister was speaking on the occasion of the 25th foundation day of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bengaluru, via video conference on Monday.

PM Modi pointed to the advances in tele-medicine as the first of these. The Prime Minister wondered whether we could come up with new models which would make telemedicine more popular on a larger scale.

PM Modi also emphasised the 'Make in India' element in the health sector. He also stressed upon developing more IT related tools to create a healthier society. In this context the Prime Minister mentioned Aarogya Setu and pointed out that 12 crore health-conscious people have downloaded it already. He also observed that the app has been very helpful in the fight against Coronavirus.

PM Modi remarked that over the past six years, the Central government gave a thrust to reforms in health and medical education. PM Modi further said that the initial gains in make in India with reference to the health sector made him feel optimistic.

The Prime Minister added that our domestic manufacturers have started production of PPEs and have also supplied about 1 crore PPEs to COVID Warriors.

PM Modi stressed upon the need to have proper proper medical infrastructure in the country including what is required for medical education. He added that plans are afoot to ensure that a medical college or postgraduate medical institute is set up in every district of the country.

PM Modi further referred to the progress achieved by the National Nutrition Mission and also the world's largest healthcare scheme - Ayushman Bharat. He pointed out that aayushman Bharat belongs to India and in less than 2 years, 1 crore people have benefitted from it.
