Prayagraj, Agra railway stations to get world class upgrade
Prayagraj: After the Manduadih railway station in Varanasi, it is now the Prayagraj railway station that will get a world class upgrade.
Three more railway stations of the North Central Railway (NCR) zone in Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur Central and Agra Cantt, would be revamped soon.
Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO), NCR, Shivam Sharma told reporters: "Earlier, the work of revamping the facilities at railway stations was entrusted to the Indian Railway Development Corporation (IRDC), which was dissolved a few months back. Following this, the revamp work would be done in the respective zones under which Prayagraj and Kanpur Central would be revamped under Prayagraj division of NCR, Agra Cantt under Agra division and Gwalior Junction under Jhansi division."
The revamp at Prayagraj which would provide airport-like facilities, is expected to cost around Rs 400 crore, he added.
The plan to make Prayagraj Junction a world-class station was conceptualised in 2018 itself, but due to the Kumbh mela in 2019 and later the pandemic, no work was done.
Under the revamp plan, work will be taken up by the Railways on both the sides of the Junction -- City side and Civil Lines side.
By constructing a multi-storey building here, the facility of lodging, food and shopping for essential items will be provided under one roof.
