Pregnant Student Safoora Zargar Denied Bail By Delhi Court In UAPA Case
A Delhi High Court denied bail to Jamia Milia University student Safoora Zargar on thursday. Safoora has been in custody since April 10 in a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for alleged conspiracy behind Delhi riots.
Safoora Zargar is 27 years old and is in her second trimester of pregnancy.
The prosecution alleged that Safooras inflammatory speech on Frbruary 23 led to riots in North East Delhi. Sessions judge observed that there is a prima facie evidence to show that there was a conspiracy to atleast blockade the roads. Judge also said that there was a prima facie case for invoking UAPA aganist Safoora.
The counsel sought bail on humanitarian grouds saying that Safoora Zargar was 21 weeks pregnant and was suffering from Poly Cystic Ovarian disorder and Urinary tract infection.
The prosecution argued that there is sufficient material to show that the accused was involved in the riots. The prosecutor also referred to copies of whatsapp chats of Safoora and statements of witnesses to justify the invocation of UAPA
