Priya Dutt to contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls
BENGALURU: Priya Dutt, the former Congress MP from Mumbai North Central constituency, has decided to come back and contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After accepting the orders of the Congress President.
The daughter of late actor and Congress leader Sunil Dutt had written to the party president a month ago that she will not be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections because she wants to devote the time to her family.
Sources have said that, Dutt was upset due to the infight in the Congress rank in Mumbai specially in her constituency. This finally became the reason for her to keep herself away from electoral politics.
Mumbai North Central constituency, which now is represented by MP Poonam Mahajan belonging to the BJP defeated Priya dutt in 2014, and is now considered to be one of the probable winnable seat for Congress. As Priya Dutt had refused to contest, congress has been struggling to find replacement.
However, in Mumbai Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally had told that, Priya Dutt needs to contest and issues about infighting can be sorted later. She has changed what she decided and now has taken the decision to accepting the nomination of the party from Mumbai North Central constituency.
Mumbai will be going for polling in 4th phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 29th.
