Puri : Centre plans survey for rly connectivity to Konark soon
Puri : Thousands gathered at historical sites in Odisha, including the Jagannath temple in Puri and Sun Temple in Konark, for the International Yoga Day. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw led the celebrations at the Konark temple.
Union Minister Mahendra Pandey, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, Puri MLA Jayanta Sarangi and party's State general secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar took part in the celebrations in Puri.
Vaishnaw inspected Puri railway station for development as a world class station. Speaking to media persons at Konark, he said the Centre was taking steps for train connectivity to Sun temple to increase tourists' footfall from the country and abroad.
He said a survey will be conducted for railway connectivity to Konark soon. The ministry plans to get railway connection to the Black Pagoda from Puri initially, later, the connectivity will be extended to other places. He said projects worth Rs 364 crore for development of the railway station here would be completed in two years.
"New Yatri Niwas is to be constructed; it will be designed in a way to withstand wind speed up to 200-300 kmph," the minister added. For easy mobility of devotees from across the country to the Rath Yatra, the railways would run 205 trains.
