Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi, slammed the Narendra Modi government's silence on the border situation with China saying that it was fuelling massive speculation and uncertainty at a time of crisis. In a Twitter post on Friday, Rahul Gandhi asked the Centre to come clean and tell the country as to what exactly was happening with respect to the India-China border situation.

Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, clearly wish to keep the pressure on the Modi government on various fronts including the border stand-off with China which is now inching close to a month. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has been offering to mediate between India and China. On Thursday, the US President repeated his offer. President told the media that he had spoken to PM Modi about the situation and that he (PM Modi) "was not in a good mood" about what was happening. A Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesman was quoted by the media as saying that no such interaction took place between the US President and Prime Minister Modi in recent days over the issue.

Under these circumstances, Rahul Gandhi decided to wade into the issue demanding answers from the Government of India.

Indian and Chinese troops have reportedly been in an eyeball-to-eyeball situation in three places in Ladakh, as also in Naku La pass in Sikkim sector.

There have been reports of blows exchanged between Indian and Chinese soldiers on May 5 near Pangong Lake in the Ladakh sector. Soldiers of both sides are reported to have received injuries in the skirmish. Several rounds of talks at the ground level have failed to resolve the issue, which is expected to be taken up at higher diplomatic levels.
