Railways Cancels All Train Tickets Till June 30
New Delhi: The Indian Railways on Thursday, announced that it has decided to cancel train tickets of all passenger trains till June 30 which were booked before lockdown. Only Shramik special trains being run for migrant workers will continue to be operated by the Railway ministry. As of now only those migrant workers with confirmed tickets are allowed to board special trains.
The Indian Railways is likely to announce a process by which refunds of reservations already made will be done.
The Railway Board in its latest order has clearly stated that regular passenger service including mail/express passenger and suburban services have been cancelled until further notice. It also says that all tickets bought for all the trains for the period up to 30th June 2020 may be cancelled and full refund generated. Earlier, it was being speculated that the Indian Railways might soon commence the operation of Mail/Express/Suburban services after the ongoing nationwide lockdown 4.0, or as part of graded exit plan.
However, it appears that the Rail Ministry is being circumspect with regard to the large-scale movement of passengers across the country in view of the fact that the COVID-19 tally in India continues to rise.
The Indian Railways has not come out with a specific notification on beginning any services yet.
EGoM Meet
Meanwhile, the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on the ongoing lockdown is scheduled to meet at 1 PM today. The meeting will be chaired by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
