Six new fire stations to be set up in Gurugram

Gurugram:Six new fire stations would be set up in Gurugram district in the coming year, for which the process to look for suitable land was in the final stages, officials said on Wednesday.

The new fire stations are proposed to be constructed near Sector 9 and 9-A, Paras Hospital, Sectors 23 and 92, and near Kherki Daula toll plaza, for which land has been sought from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).

As for the proposal to set up fire stations in new sectors like Sector 60, information on suitable vacant land too has been sought from the District Town and Country Planning Department.

Gurugram Municipal Corporation officials said that 16 more villages would be brought under the MC jurisdiction and hence there was need to set up more fire stations.

"In case of a fire, a tragedy can occur in case fire tenders do not reach the spot on time. There is also the fear of fire tenders getting stuck in traffic jams in congested places. If new fire stations are set up, it will become easy for firefighters to reach the spots on time," said a MCG official.

At present, Gurugram city has four fire stations -- Sector 29, Udyog Vihar, Bhimnagar, and Sector 37. Manesar also has a big fire station.

"The process to set up new fire stations has resumed. The land for the purpose is expected to be found soon. The construction will begin in 2021. The Fire Department staff in the district will also be increased accordingly once the new fire stations are set up," said Gurugram Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Isham Singh Kashyap.
