Sonia Gandhi to hold a top-level meeting on Saturday
NEW DELHI: On Saturday, the Congress president Sonia Gandhi will be holding a top-level party meeting regarding the importance of the nationwide protest that has been planned between November 5-15.
She will be gathering the AICC general secretaries, heads of departments and frontal organisations for the meeting. As per sources the discussion is likely to be comprised of the state-wide plan for protests.
The previous week, Congress had announced its opposition to Regional Comprehensive Economic Programme. The party has said that it will endanger domestic industries, mainly dairy and fishery sectors, it had also urged other opposition parties to forge a "common agitational platform" against RCEP.
Due to the economic distress, it is believed that in the states of Haryana and Maharashtra, the opposition did much better than expected in recent assembly elections.
A public rally is said to be organised, at the end of the 10-day programme, in the capital to amplify the theme of economic woes.
To execute the protest plan, every state is being assigned a central AICC observer to finalise.
