Supreme Court Asks Centre To Consider Accommodation To Doctors Near Hospitals
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Government of India to consider providing accommodation and quarantine facility to doctors in the vicinity of hospitals where they work. The apex court directed Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta to seek instructions on a petition filed by a lady doctor from Udaipur, media reports said.
The apex court directed the Solicitor-General of India to seek detailed instructions on arrangements for quarantining doctors outside the hospital, as also their accommodation. The petition related to the requirement of quarantine facilities for resident doctors in government hospitals on completion of their duty.
The Solicitor-General of India, Tushar Mehta, pointed out that on April 7, state governments had ordered the setting up of necessary arrangements for accommodation of doctors. The Centre is aware of the situation and is doing its best to look after their needs, he is reported to have informed the apex court.
The SG is further said to have informed the Supreme Court that a large number of hotels including five-star hotels had been requisitioned and that if there is any lapse, it must be brought to the notice of the government.
The Solicitor-General also pointed out that a hotline is already present if doctors wished to flag any issue.
