Supreme Court Asks States To Evolve Uniform Policy For Movement In NCR
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday favoured a uniform policy on the movement of traffic in the National Capital Region. The apex court made the observation while hearing petitions on the subject of movement to and from Delhi and neighbouring states including Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The Supreme Court called for a consistent and uniform policy in the matter. It also directed the Centre to hold a meeting with the officials of the governments in question and come up with a uniform policy and portal for inter-state movements across the National Capital Region.
The apex court directed the Centre, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to come up with 'One policy, One path & One portal' within a week to facilitate movement in the National Capital Region (NCR). Over the past several days, as lockdown norms have been eased, check posts on the border of Haryana, UP's Ghaziabad-Delhi, Ghazipur-Delhi and NOIDA-Delhi have slowed down traffic. Only genuine travellers with e-passes are being allowed into the national capital and vice versa.
While Uttar Pradesh and Haryana claimed that both states witnessed a spike due to opening up borders with Delhi, the state government in Delhi claimed that opening up of borders of the neighbouring states has led to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the national capital.
Against this background, the Supreme Court directive will ensure a uniform policy to ease movement across states in the NCR.
