Sushma Swaraj's initiative on staying Kulbhushan Jadhav's death sentence
Former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj played a crucial role in staying Kulbhushan Jadhav's case who was sentenced to death by a Pakistan court.The former Indian Navy officer was detained in Pakistan on charges of spying.
Sushma challenged it at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and took a particular interest in the case hearing following which the court ordered a stay on the execution of Jadhav's death sentence. She was the first leader to react to the ICJ's verdict. "I wholeheartedly welcome the verdict of International Court of Justice in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav. It is a great victory for India," she tweeted.
She also took the initiative for allowing Jadhav to meet his family in Islamabad on December 2017.
An hour before her death, she tweeted to Harish Salve, the lawyer who represented India at ICJ in Kulbhushan Jadhav's case to visit her residence in Delhi on Wednesday to collect his fee of Re 1..
