Uddhav Thackeray to be new Maharashtra CM, meets governor ahead

Mumbai: While the oath-taking ceremony was of the MLAs was going on in the assembly, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and wife Rashmi Thackeray called on Maharashtra governor BS Koshyari on Wednesday morning.

The Shiv Sena chief met Governor Koshyari in an informal meeting at the Raj Bhavan ahead of his swearing-in as the chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday. The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance elected Uddhav Thackeray as its nominee for Maharashtra Chief Minister's post on Tuesday evening. Post the election, the leaders met Governor Koshyari and staked claim to form the government of the "Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi".

A letter was submitted claiming that a total of 166 MLAs were in support of the new government to the governor. Governor Koshiyari directed Uddhav Thackeray to submit a "list" of "majority support in the Assembly" by December 3 through a letter.

NCP Leader was seen hugging Supriya Sule at the assembly after quitting as the Maharashtra Deputy CM.

After the Supreme Court ordered for a floor test as per the three-party alliance's demands, Ajit Pawar quit as the Deputy CM of the state. Within less than our, reports of Devendra Fadnavis quitting as Chief Minister surfaced, too.

In a midnight coup, Fadnavis was sworn in on November 23 in a secret ceremony held early in the morning with Ajit Pawar's support, who, at the time headed the 54-member NCP legislature party.

Uddhav Thackeray will be the first member of the Thackeray family to ever hold the post of Maharashtra chief minister and finally realise the dream of Balasaheb Thackeray. The stage is set for Uddhav Thackeray to be sworn in as the new chief minister on Thursday. Sena leader Aditya Thackeray spoke about the developments soon after the MLAs agreed to Uddhav becoming the Chief Minister.

Late Bal Thackeray, Uddhav's father never assumed power during 1995-99 after wielding the 'remote control' over the first Sena-BJP combine government.
