US President Donald Trump Describes Kashmir As Thorn Between India, Pakistan

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump described Kashmir as a thorn between India and Pakistan. Addressing the media at a press conference in ITC Maurya in the national capital on Tuesday, he remarked that both sides have their points. The US President said that there are two sides to a coin.

President Trump observed that he had not offered to mediate, but said he would if needed. He was hopeful that the two neighbors would work it out between them. He remarked that the US was engaging with Pakistan as well. President Trump observed that he had a good equation with Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan.

President Trump described his trip as one based on the diplomacy of friendship. Prodded for a response on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), President Trump refused to discuss the issue. On religious liberty, President Trump said that he raised the issue with the Indian leader and heard a very strong answer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi told him that India had worked very hard on religious freedom.

Questioned about the discriminatory aspect of CAA, President Trump said that he had full faith in PM Modi's leadership. The US President also pointed out that India had a large Muslim population and that Prime Minister Modi worked closely with the Muslim community.

President Trump described India as a wonderful country with a great cultural history and rich diversity. He was overwhelmed by the welcome accorded to him and members of his family at Ahmedabad, he said.
