Vikram Agnihotri: India's First person to get driving license without hands

Update: 2019-04-27 12:48 IST

Meet Vikram Agnihotri. He is merely India's first person without hands to be given a driving license, who drives a modified automatic car beautifully, with his legs.

Having lost both his hands owing to an accident when he was 7 years old, this 48-year-old fought a system hard to get a driving license - he learnt law to win the battle.

Initially, a clueless RTA department said he could not be given a license because he would not be able to give a 'hand' signal when he was making a turn. He proved to them the law did not specify it.

He was told he could pose a threat to society if he drove - he fought back saying it was a bias, with no data to prove such a claim.

Finally, Union Minister Nitin Gadhkari flew to Indore a few years ago to 'hand' him the first Indian driving license for an 'invalid' without hands.

He has participated in several open car rallies, refusing to take part in 'special' rallies. He has so far helped 14 other Indians with a severe handicap to get a driving license.

He is now promoting voting awareness, asking people to vote. He votes with his legs, as he does many things, dextrously.
