Kerala: One of the accused in the Walayar rape and death case was allegedly thrashed by a group of people on Saturday morning within the Walayar station limits in Palakkad district of Kerala.

Identified as C Madhu, the accused in the Walayar rape case has been admitted into a government hospital in Palakkad after he was injured. Police have stated that a fight between Madhu and a gang of 4-5 men had caused the ruckus. Three attackers have been taken into custody.

Walayar Rape Case:

In January 2017, a 13-year-old girl was found hanging in her residence at Walayar, Kerala. Post her demise, her sister testified that she saw two men running out of the house on the day her dead body was found. After a few weeks, the 9-year-old sister was found dead in the same house, under similar circumstances. Police investigations revealed that both the sisters were sexually assaulted before they were killed by the criminals.

A local court had acquitted all the accused in the case but the state Government had filed an appeal against the acquittal in the Kerala High Court.

The judgment noted that there was no scientific evidence that could connect the accused to the offences mentioned in the charge sheet. The statement by the forensic surgeon, who performed the postmortem of the older girl, that the victim's anal injuries could be due to piles infection went in favour of the accused. Both the sisters belonged to a Dalit family.
