Bengaluru: Onion dosa out from menu in restaurants as price hike

Bengaluru: The hike of onion price, which has nearly touched Rs 100 per kg, has actually left the middle-class families in tears. Now it's the turn for onion dosa lovers, as many of the restaurants in Bengaluru removed the popular breakfast from their menus.

The sky shooting onion prices have mostly affected the low and mid-level eateries which run the business on marginal profits. In spite of it, they kept the prices affordable for their customers.

But the continues rise of onion prices has made the things difficult for eateries owners to run the show. Bengaluru is not the only city in this list the restaurants across the country are affected by the onion crisis.

Now the only way to survive in the competitive market is to transfer the burden on customers and spike the costs of onion-based dishes Rs 15 - 20 extra.

V Kamat, Treasurer of Bangalore Hotels Association told the News Agencies, "We have reduced onion usage due to the price hike. Fine-dines can raise rates of food items, but those who eat at middle-class eateries feel the pinch if prices rise."

"The usage of onions cannot be avoided in some items, but there has definitely been a reduction in the percentage of its usage by the low and middle-class eateries," he added.

Onion price has been increasing for the last one month due to the heavy rains and flood-affected in producing states. Over the issue, the common citizens said that the government should assess the situation and must take the precautionary measures that they do not emerge in the future.
