Laya Praveena title bestowed on TVG

Sri Dandamudi Ramamohanarao Layavedika felicitated ‘Padmabhushan” “Sangeetha Kalanidhi” Dr TV Gopalakrishnan with the assistance of Department of Language and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday at Sri Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

Gopalakrishnan, 85, hails from a traditional family of musicians and is also talented in both Carnatic vocal and Hindustani. He was born in 1932 Tripunithura, Kerala. Gopalakrishnan is popularly known as TVG. He started playing the mridangam at the age of four. He is disciple of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar, an eminent Carnatic music singer from Palakkad.

Gopalakrishnan has been a popular guru among both Carnatic musicians and those pursuing music of other genres. TVG likes innovation in music and he also associated for many fusion efforts presently coming. TVG had other honours includes Sangeet Natak Akademi and Padma Bhushan awards.

Eminent Carnatic musician and mridangam exponent T V Gopalakrishnan has been felicitated with a title “Laya Praveena” by the organisers. Prayaga Vedavathi presided over the meeting and said that Gopalakrishnan is versatile musician. She also added that TVG is a singer and also expert of playing various instruments. Golla Narayana Rao, Manda Srinivasa Rao. Layavedika founder and eminent mridanga vidwan Dandamudi Sumati Ramamohanrao and others were also participated in the meeting.

It is wonderful evening for the music lovers because they drenched in the 'layavinyasam' of Dr Gopalakrishnan. He presented “Ragam Tanam Pallavi” in adi talam. He was supported by Padmanabhan and Sridevi. Public felt for the absence of the State Government officials and also the teaching staff of Music College for the felicitation function and the programme of a legendary musician like TVG.
