The baby Jag, aka the XE, has been long awaited and when the British car maker finally unveiled the XE in 2015, it didn’t take much time for the Tata Motors owned company to bring it to India, launching it in the sub-continent at last year’s Auto Expo.
In spite of India being a diesel loving country, the shift towards petrol due to the removal of subsidy on diesel fuel and narrowing price gap between the two fuels resulted in Jaguar launching only the petrol XE in the country.
When we drove the Jaguar XE, we loved it for various reasons and the petrol mill’s performance was surely one of them. Now Jaguar has opened bookings for the diesel XE and it is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-pot mill that does duty on other JLR vehicles.
The Ingenium diesel powertrain belts out 177 BHP and is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the petrol powerplant produces 197 BHP and 320 Nm or 237 BHP and 340 Nm as it is offered in two states of tune.
Jaguar hasn’t revealed the prices of the XE diesel yet but bookings have commenced across all its dealerships pan India. The diesel powered D-segment sedan will be launched later this month and will compete with the segment best seller, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class while also rivaling the sporty BMW 3-Series and the tech loaded Audi A4. The XE also rivals the Volvo S60 which is due for a massive update soon.
