As a part of ‘Telugu Jatiya Mahasabha’, the organisation ‘Janasahiti’ arranged a thought provoking play ‘Amma’ in Siddhartha auditorium on Saturday evening.

The drama ‘Amma’ was based on a famous novel ‘Mother’ written by Maxim Gorky in 1906 about the exploitation of factory workers in those days. This book was translated into many languages. This novel was staged in 1932. In his novel, Gorky portrays the life of a woman who works in a Russian factory. Though she worked hard, her fight with poverty and hunger could not be stopped. She had other hardships like a drunkard husband. In spite of all the hurdles, with her will power, unity, character and devotion on duty, she becomes hero.

This was produced by Souviki samskritik Chakra directed by Goutham Mukharji of Kolkata. The main characters played by Goutham Mukarjee, Sevik Mukharjee, Suvogni Mukharji. Though this play was staged in Bengili, the audience enjoyed the flavor of the drama because of the artistes’ excellent performance. The simple and apt stage design and using of technical effects were appreciated by the connoisseurs. It was welcome sign to witness a large number of audience for a drama in annother language.
