Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar has called upon people to cooperate with the municipal corporation to get the top position in the Swachh Survekshan mission in India by segregating dry and wet garbage while disposing waste.

The Mayor, along with the Municipal Commissioner J Nivas distributed baskets to the residents of ninth division on Friday. The VMC distributed the blue and green baskets to the residents and explained the benefits of segregation of waste. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said Vijayawada secured the 19th rank in India in Swachh Survekshan maintaining hygiene and is now trying to get to the top.

He said the garbage would be used to recycle and produce energy. “VMC sanitation staff will come to the homes to collect the wet and dry garbage separately,” he informed.
Municipal commissioner said that the denizens of Vijayawada can download the Swachh Survekshan App and use it to get a better position in the nationwide survey.

Nivas had explained the measures being taken by the civic body to keep the city clean and green.Later, mayor and commissioner inspected the Chennupati Ramakotaiah indoor stadium in Patamata, inquired about the poor facilities and damaged floor of the stadium.
