Desserts sell like ‘hot cakes’
Guntur: The city witnessed luminously decorated sweet shops and bakeries ahead of the New Year’s eve festivities to appeal to customers. Dessert outlets across the city opened special counters to cater to the consumers’ demands for the celebrations that mark the upcoming year.
Sweets shops at Brodipet, Arundapet, Lakshmikpuram, One Town and Gardens Centre opened special counters selling cakes for anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 500 per kg. Similarly, the sweets are selling from Rs 400 to 600 a kg. The outlets also sell ice cream boxes. Consumers have been placing orders to get a sugar-rush to ring in the new-year with their respective families.
A vendor P Srinivasa Rao said that sales of sweets, cakes, ice creams and cool drinks picked up early Sunday. “We are expecting good business on Sunday and Monday. We opened additional counters to meet the demand,” he added.
Similarly, demand for apples, oranges, bananas, flower bouquet increased on the occasion of new-year in the city.
