Rajamahendravaram: Former MP, GV Harsha Kumar has demanded that the government initiate a judicial inquiry into the murder of muezzin Mohammed Farooq (67), as the Muslim community and others are skeptical about the previously wrapped up investigation of the urban police regarding the incident.

Mohammed Farooq was murdered in Noorani mosque in which he was working, on December 29. The incident created a sensation in the state.

Speaking to reporters at Rajiv Gandhi College here on Thursday, he questioned how someone could jump into a mosque in the middle of the night and injure Farooq, open the room, steal cash and burn some material there, all in an inebriated state, as said by urban Superintendent of Police B Raja Kumari in a press conference here on Wednesday. “The police produced an innocent person as the murderer before the media to slip out of the issue at hand,” he alleged.

He demanded that the police department nab the real culprit and produce before the media instead. Criticising the police, he said, “The police were working for the ruling party and not for the people.” He further questioned why the department failed to resolve the issue despite eight hours of traffic being stalled on the national highway. “Harsha, along with his two sons is currently under house arrest and the police denied this claim in a letter,” he said.
