Kakinada: Seeking the closure of shrimp ponds, the AIKMS (All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh) leaders and activists protested before the Tahsildar office at the K Gangavaram Mandal on Thursday.

The activists raised slogans against the government and demanded that the government immediately destroy the shrimp ponds, which were the major cause of pollution in the villages of this mandal. The activists protested right before the entrance of the Tahsildar office and displayed cloth banners condemning the ponds.

They further alleged that some of the officials colluded with the owners of the shrimp ponds. “Police cases had been filed against the activists who were agitating against the prawn cultivation in the mandal,” stated the agitated. Women activists expressed that these ponds contaminated drinking water in the area and the officials were paying a deaf ear to the grievances of the villagers. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar urging the immediate closure of police cases on AIKMS activists.
