Kakinada: “Child marriages are a stigma in the civic society and those who perform such marriages have been hindering nation’s progress,” according to noted advocate Sri Lakshmi.

Participating in a free legal aid camp at Anganwadi Centre in Ramanayya Peta here on Friday, she said that a majority of minor girls had been wasting their time instead of going to schools even in today’s time and age.

She further said that it was a terrible practice in India and it should be stopped. Sri Lakshmi informed that having children in a tender age leads to fatal situations for young mothers.

“People conducting child marriages would be booked under severe cases. Even the photo and videographers will not be spared,” she warned. Those aware of such illegal customs and practices can dial 1098 or 100 to register a complaint. Adabala Ratna Prasad, Param Jyothi, Pardha Saradhi and the local residents attended the meeting.
