Bhavanarushi Rathotsavam attract thousands of devotees
Chirala: The colorful and vibrant Rathotsavam performed after the celestial marriage of Bhavanarushi and Bhadravathi, received large number of spectators on Thursday night in Perala, the twin town of Chirala in the district.
The Chirala and its surrounding villages are known to be the capital of cloth industry in the state. Lakhs of Padmasalis and people from its sub-castes live in Chirala and surroundings, which is occasionally called as second Mumbai. The Bhavanarushi is considered to be the founder of Padmasali community, which is the cloth weaving caste surviving since man learned to shy.
The Bhavanarushi Kalyanam is performed every year after the second day of the Kanuma festival in January.
This year, the committee of Bhavanarushi temple in Perala performed the marriage of God Bhavanarushi with Goddess Bhadravathi on Thursday. Thousands of the Padmasalis from the nearby villages watched the celestial event. The devotees including the women and youth fought to pull the Ratham, where the celestial couple goes for a ride in the town to bless the people. The traditional fair with toys, sugarcanes attracted the children and the fireworks after the Rathotsam mesmerised everyone.
The Chirala police provided best security arrangements to see the procession move smoothly and the people celebrate the celestial wedding in gaiety and devotional fervour.
