Farmers oppose land acquisition system

Kakinada: The leaders and activists of CITU (Centre of Trade Unions), the AP Raithu Sangham, the AP Koulu Raithu Sangham and the AP Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham, staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Friday, protesting against the current land acquisition system and to redress their other demands.

The activists raised slogans against the government seeking their demands to be redressed by the government. They demanded that the government immediately sanction a minimum monthly salary of Rs 18,000 and set up a wage board for the labourers.

The activists wanted implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations on minimum support price (MSP). They asked the government that it should stop the land acquisition in the state. The agitators asked for implementation of the food security act and delivery of 14 types of groceries to the poor. CITU leaders Karanam Viswanadham, G Durga Prasad, M Veera Lakshmi, Gurrala Apparao, V Raja Babu, KS Srinu and others participated in the protest.
