Students asked to strive to protect democratic values

Vijayawada: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated on a grand note at various educational institutions in the city on Friday. Commissioner of the Vijayawada Municipal Commission (VMC), J Nivas unfurled Tricolour at Potti Sriramulu Municipal High School at Krishnalanka. Speaking on the occasion, he said that during India’s freedom struggle, many patriots fought with the British fearlessly. “The present day youth should also strive hard to keep up the democratic values for the development of the nation.”

Film actor Tarun was the guest on the occasion. He advised the youth to put in serious efforts to excel in studies. Only hard work and dedication would help them achieve their goal, he added. Deputy Mayor G Venkata Ramana Rao, Krishnalanka division corporator G Narasimha Rao, school staff, students were present.

The Republic Day celebrations were held on a grand note at Siddhartha Public School. Siddhartha Medical and Research Foundation principal Dr ASN Murthy hoisted the Tricolour. He said that the youth of the country should dedicate themselves for the development of the nation. Later, students of the school also spoke on Republic Day. About 350 prizes and admiration certificates won by the school students at state, national and international levels were displayed.
