Removal of shops sparks protest

Guntur: Municipal officials in Ponnur town removed shop partitions which were constructed without taking permission from the municipality at SPP Road with the poclain. When the shop owners opposed partitions removal and obstructed the town planning officials, police took them into custody.

The YSRCP leader and former MLA Ravi Venkataramana and other YSRCP leaders rushed to the spot and squatted on the road to register their protest. They raised slogans against the officials. Ponnur Municipal Commissioner A Venkateswarulu said, “We have removed shops’ partition walls which were constructed without taking prior permission from the municipality.”
