SW hostel girls fall sick due to reaction of tablets

Ongole: About 15 girls from the Social Welfare Hostel in Ongole fell sick after they consumed medicines distributed by the doctor for skin disease on Saturday night. The girls were shifted immediately to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and the doctors announced they were out of danger.

The girls in the Social Welfare Hostel at Santhapet in Ongole are said to be suffering from skin disease. The warden informed the Mukhyamantri Arogyakendra at Balajinagar and the doctor visited the hostel distributed ointment and tablets for relief. The girls consumed the tablets in the evening and applied ointment, but started throwing up shortly after. The warden and officials shifted the 15 girls to RIMS for treatment in the night and informed the parents.

The social welfare department deputy director, Lakshmisudha, DEO Subbarao and other officers rushed to RIMS immediately and enquired about the condition of the children. On Sunday, Dalit leaders Neelam Nagendram, Tribal Association leader Sriram Srinivasa Rao and others visited the girls and offered fruits and bread along with the assurance of help for them.
